What is this procedure?
This procedure aim to remove the varicose veins in your leg.
Why would you need the operation (indication)?
This is usually for cosmetic reason. It may sometime give you some
discomfort.
What symptoms would you experience with this problem?

How do you know for sure that you have the condition therefore you
need this operation?
This is obvious as you can see the varicose veins. Your surgeon may send
you to have an ultrasound to confirm the location of the where the
problem of the veins are.
What scar will you have and what does the procedure involve?
You will have a cut in the groin as well as multiple stab (small) cuts in
the leg. This allows the surgeons to remove the varicose veins and
prevent it from coming back.
What anaesthetic will I have and do I have a choice?
You will need a general anaesthetic.
What are the possible complications and what are the chances that they
occur?
A nerve that supply sensation to your foot may be damage. This is very
rare. There is a small chance that the varicose veins may recur.
What to expect after the operation?
You will have a compression bandage all the way down you leg.
Should I not be doing certain things after the operation?
You should keep your legs elevated when not walking as to decrease
swelling.
You should not drive until you are reveiwed by the surgeon.
How long should I be off work?
Depending on the work you do but usuallu you will not be abe to return
to work until the bandages are removed.
When will I see my surgeon for review?
You surgeon will see you between 1 and 2 weeks.
Is there long term follow-up with my surgeon?
Usually no.
