Every public hospital will have a waiting list for elective surgery. Some hospitals will have longer waiting list, others shorter depending on how busy a hospital is. Q: I’ve been waiting too long for my operation in the public hospital, what can I do? You can ring up the booking office of the hospital to find out when your turn is likely to be. Public hospitals have a triage system to determine which patient require their operation more urgently. If you know a hospital that has a shorter waiting list and are happy to travel there, you can opt to be seen at that hospital. You will need to go through the referral process. See Process of Referral
