Every public hospital will have a waiting list for elective surgery. Some
hospitals will have longer waiting list, others shorter depending on how busy a
hospital is.
Q: I’ve been waiting too long for my operation in the public hospital, what can
I do?
You can ring up the booking office of the hospital to find out when your turn is
likely to be.
Public hospitals have a triage system to determine which patient require their
operation more urgently.
If you know a hospital that has a shorter waiting list and are happy to travel
there, you can opt to be seen at that hospital.
You will need to go through the referral process.
